Using a pool cover and ground sheet – why is it a good idea?

There are several different types of pool cover, all with the same purpose: a standard pool cover, a summer cover with a thermal function, a winter cover, or an all-season cover with a wire lock.

What do the different pool covers do?

A standard pool cover prevents water contamination – such as from trees and bushes.

A thermal function summer cover will help keep the water warm during the bathing season. This is almost a must-have if you have solar heaters connected to your pool. This prevents the heat from escaping the pool.

A winter or all-season cover with wire-lock provides safety and protects the water from debris. This cover also prevents solar radiation in the pool, which can increase algae growth.

It is always a good idea to use a ground sheet. Using a ground sheet is the best way to protect the liner and plastic pool. A ground sheet also makes the pool bottom nicer to walk on and extends the pool life, as the liner is protected by a base.
