Carefully closing down your pool also makes it much easier to get it ready for the next bathing season.
When the pool season is over and autumn arrives, it is recommended that you close down the pool correctly. A typical pool season lasts from the middle of April to the end of September.
You should, however, postpone this until the water temperature has fallen below 15 degrees Celsius. This minimises the risk of algae growth in the pool before the low winter temperatures set in.
Carefully closing down your pool also makes it much easier to get it ready for the next bathing season.
1. It is always a good idea to clean your pool just before closing it for winter. This will mean less work when spring comes and you want to prepare your pool for the new summer season. You can see the full range of cleaning equipment here.
2. Lower the water level in your pool. Lower the water level in the pool until there is about 15 cm of water below the return pipe. Alternatively, install a winter plug (item no. 1519) in the return pipe nozzle, so the water level can be raised to 15 cm below the skimmer instead. Remove all hoses connected to the skimmer and pump. Make sure that all the water has come out of the skimmer housing and that there is free passage for any water to run out.
3. Check all joints and screws. Make sure that all frame joints fit correctly. Check that the pool wall has not shifted from the bottom rail. Make sure that all screws and bolts are properly fastened.
4. Make sure that there is no rust. Paint all rusty areas with anti-rust paint.
5. Check the pool liner. Make sure the top of the liner is securely attached to the pool wall with the plastic edging. Do not remove the liner from the pool. Removing the liner will invalidate the warranty. Do not drain all the water from the pool.
6. Check for holes. Make sure there are no holes in the liner. Repair any holes with a pool repair kit. Over winter, small holes can cause significant damage to the pool.
7. Pool accessories. Remove all accessories from the pool, including the ladder. Leave the in-wall skimmer installed. Make sure that the skimmer is closed at the top and that the opening at the bottom is open to allow any remaining water to drain. Alternatively, place an ice protector in the skimmer (item no. 1612)
8. Cleaning Add pool winterising agent to the pool water after physical cleaning, pH adjustment and chlorine shock. This prevents the growth of algae and lime deposits from sticking to the pool.
9. Filter. Remove the pool hoses from the filter. Empty the sand filter system completely of water and sand and store it in a frost-free location for the winter.
10. Minimise potential damage from heavy icing. Pool Protectors (item no. 1613) should be placed transversely on the pool surface. They will float on the water surface. They will absorb any additional pressure from ice formation and thereby reduce frost damage to the pool liner. A winter cushion is also a very good idea (item no. 1621). The winter cushion compensates for the additional pressure that will build on top of the cover over time. The additional pressure is caused by factors such as rain and snow. Placing the inflated winter cushion below the cover creates a flexible "void" that offsets the additional pressure that would otherwise damage the pool wall, liner, and cover. Note that the cushion should be inflated to 60-80% to allow for compression.
Cover the pool with a winter cover in order to avoid too much dirt and beneficial growth conditions for algae and bacteria, the pool should be covered with a dark winter cover. The cover is secured with the supplied locking wire.
We recommend that you remove large amounts of snow due to the weight of the load.
